1947 öppnade Christian Dior sitt modehus och i och med detta lanserade han det som har kommit att kallas "the new look" - modet skulle aldrig mer bli sig likt...
"The new look" var omdanande, nytänkande och ja faktiskt till och med epokgörande, idag har den blivit urbilden för det man kallar "la mode parisienne", eller i folkmun "parisisk elegans". Stilen var ultrafeminin med trådsmal midja, hög och generös byst, smala axlar och väl tilltaget kjolstyg. Man kan se New look som en motreaktion till modet under kriget som hade maskulina fomer och snålare tygåtgång. Efter kriget återgick kvinnorna till hemmet (efter att ha hållit ruljansen igång i fabrikerna) och ett "kvinnligare" ideal skapades där New look helt klart var ett utryck för den nya tiden.
Carmel Snow som på den tiden var moderedaktör på Harper's Bazaar lär vid presentation av Christian Diors första kollektion ha utbrutit "Dear Christian your dresses have such a new look" - därav "New look". "The new look" spred sig som en löpeld och dominerade hela modebilden ända fram till 1954 då Christian Dior lanserade "H-linjen" eller "the Flat look" som den även kallas - men det är en helt annan historia...

Att kalla "New Look" "nytänkande" är mer än lovligt provocerande.
Astrid: hur menar du då? Kanske inte nytänkande nu men 1947?!?!
Dior lånade från sin mammas 1800-talsgarderob och återskapade en stel och dekorativ kvinnodräkt.
Astrid: Det visste jag inte men jag är knappast ensam om att påstå att New look var nytänkande. Även om han hämtade inspiration från 1800-talsmode så är det ju knappast samma kläder som användes på 1800-talet och än idag kan man ju vara nyskapande även om man hämtar inspiration från tidigare epoker.
Jag håller helt med Fancy Desire, du borde helt klart jobba på en tidning, du är ju grym på collage :)

Apropå tidning, det här är väl lite som en tidning. Så ser jag det.

Coco Chanels var inte särskilt förtjust i the "new look". tydligen lär hon ha sagt att han omöjligen kunde designa kvinnan då han inte kände till hennes kropp eftersom han inte hade varit med en någonsin (han var homosexuell)... tuff dam.
Isabelle: Skulle gärna göra det men jag har nog tagit tillräckligt med poäng på universitetet för ett par år framöver, kanske när jag är gammal coh pensionerad :) Jag måste säga att det var nog det dummaste jag har hört Coco säga, majoriteten av alla manliga designers är ju trots allt homosexuella och att säga att ingen av dem skulle kunna designa för kvinnor skulle betyda att vi inte hade många duktiga designers överhuvudtaget. Nej där håller jag inte med Coco även om jag är övertygad om att Diors New look kanske inte var den mest bekväma och lättburna stilen men det var aldrig meningen...
